The Menendez Brothers (Joseph “Lyle" & Erik Menendez)

The Menendez Boys! I don’t know why I want to call them that or if that was there thing in the 90’s. They are officially are the Menendez Brothers because they are biological brothers. Recently, their name has been brought back up and very went viral on Tik Tok, a social media platform. Tik Tok platform is known for short skits, new dance moves & singing. Even after I did some research, no one has a clear answer on why they went viral on that social media platform in 2022. Here are some interesting information that has come out through the years.

Joseph “Lyle” Menendez was born January 10th, 1968 & Erik Galen Menendez was born November 27th, 1970. They were the sons of Kitty & Jose E. Menendez. Erik & Lyle Menendez took their parent’s lives by shooting them in their Beverly Hills mansion on August 21st, 1989.

The Menendez family lived in Princeton, New Jersey for years before deciding to Calabasas California in 1987. Jose was promoted and moved the family to Calabasas first, then Beverly Hills. When though their parents moved the family for a better lifestyle, Lyle & Erik got into trouble with their friends. To cure their boredom Lyle started robbing houses with his friends. Then Erik join them in burglarizing their parent’s friends homes. Their father Jose Menendez was very disappointed in them and didn’t want their actions to get to them media. He paid the victims for the possessions and to keep it from the media.

The authorities were puzzled on who committed this crime. First they thought it was a mob killing because the scene was so horrific. It was the information Erik’s psychologist mistress gave them that lead to their arrest. Erik had confessed what he and his brother had to done to their parents. Lyle Menendez was arrested on March 8th 1990. Erik turn himself in the authorities after return from Israel on March 11th, 1990. They were immediately separated and held without bail. Lyle & Erik spent decades separate in different facilities until they reunited by 2018. They are not in the same cell.

Joseph “Lyle” & Erik Menendez were convicted of two counts First Degree Murder of Kitty & Jose E. Menendez (their parents) and conspiracy to commit murder in 1996. There sentence is Life in Prison without the possibility of Parole. They have been in prison for almost 31 years. They are currently incarcerated at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, located in San Diego, California. There are no new developments in this case and have not been for years.

Today, “Lyle” is 54 years old & Erik is 51 years old. (February 2022)
